The great thing about fishing is that you never know what will happen on the next cast.  Could be nothing… but then again you might just catch the biggest fish of your life!   That’s what makes it so addictive.  That’s why, even after a slow day of getting no bites all day, you still make that last cast.  Or ten last casts…

After growing up fishing the lakes and streams of the northeast, my adventurous spirit  brought me to the west.  First I spent a year in Colorado, enjoying the skiing and mountains.  When there was no fresh powder to be had I would fish for trout in the beautiful streams.

Eventually I made my way to San Diego, California, which is now my home.  I was lucky enough that my brother worked on a long range sport fishing boat, and I got to go on a six day trip off the shore of Baja.  It was a ‘free’ trip, meaning I didn’t have to pay to go, but they worked me like a rented mule!  As hard as I worked, the crew worked twice as hard.  It was all worth it though, as I caught more fish than I could handle, including albacore, bluefin tuna, yellowtail, and the only dorado of the trip. My arms were jelly after that trip.

Since then, I have been fishing for trout up in the Eastern Sierra as often as possible.  And, the highlight of each year is a trip back east to see the family and friends, and compete in our annual Bassmaster Tournament.  At last year’s trip, I was introduced to the Troutman Swimbaits  RATTLE CLACKER and RATO.  At first I was skeptical, not having experience with swimbaits.  I had confidence in my tried and true techniques of using plastics, live bait, jigs, spinner baits, and rapalas.  But after getting schooled by the Colonel, my eyes were opened to the incredible effectiveness of the RATTLE CLACKER and RATO.  It didn’t take me long to forget everything I thought I knew about catching bass, and make the switch.  In addition to catching more and bigger fish, it was just way more fun!  There’s nothing like the feeling of having your lure get swarmed on by a huge bucket mouth!  When nothing else was working, the Troutman

always produced.

Now I am excited about using these TROUTMAN lures out here on the Southern California lakes, where world record size bass live!

Happy fishing, Tom
