These lures may take a few casts to break-in. The RATO weighs approx 1.6 oz.

A duo-lock snap, or straight tied (direct terminal knot) San Diego knot works great.

Use no less than 20 lb test mono with your RATO and retie often.

Use short multi-strand wire leader for toothy fish.

The faster the retrieve the deeper the RATO goes. The same is true for trolling, and the farther away from the boat the deeper it will run.

Hard-mono or fluorocarbon line is a good choice - this line is sinking line. Braided line is floating line. Monofilament is also a good choice, and is more neutral.

A good bait casting reel is essential as is a nice heavy power, fast action graphite rod. Look for a nice long rear and fore grip. The rod should be rated for at least up to 2 ounces, 12-25 lb test, and be at least 7'6".

A longer rod increases the leverage the fish will exert against the angler (this equals more fun) and will increase your casting distance.

Position the rod at 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock when retrieving and stop retrieve (or give) to allow lure to rise up, or back out of the weed; or rip it through the weed.

Clean weeds off between casts.

BE ALERT - many fish will attack this RATO right at the boat, at the last second, as it ascends to your rod.

These cedar lures should be hung to dry  thoroughly after fishing.  Do not store in  provided case until thoroughly dried.
