RATTLE CLACKER

The “Colonel” set out to build the ultimate largemouth bass (bassus gigantus) swimbait.

Although the RATTLE CLACKER will slam pike, musky, any fresh water game fish even lake trout and smallmouth bass, it was originally developed for the large mouth bass.

It will slam saltwater game fish in both cold and tropical water.

Originally named the Galloping Super Rattle Clacker because of its unique galloping horse sound in flat calm water, the RATTLE CLACKER will produce a ton of sound on and below the surface.

The sound it makes calls ‘em to the dinner table. That, combined with the splashdown, shape, size, and most important, action (the way in which it swims) makes this lure receive an astounding number of strikes from large bass.

Although I have caught many small bass (barely larger than the lure itself) at least half of them have been good ones and many huge bass. Many will attack right at the last second at the boat.

I believe in the “big bait” theory. A big easy meal will coax a fat bass out of hiding and produce a ravenous strike. Fish attack the RATTLE CLACKER at all depths. The near surface (slow-medium) retrieve seems particularly effective. Fish have a natural tendency to attack bait against the surface wall as it seems that the bait is without protection, and up against a “wall”.  Wakebait/Swimbaits are exceptional producers even when the sun is up. The RATTLE CLACKER does it all with its ability to run at variable depths - depending on the speed of retrieve or troll.

Cedar has been used for fishing lures since the beginning of recorded fishing time. It has a natural resistance to decay and water rot. It is light and strong. It is no surprise that exterior roofing, siding, and decking are among its primary uses. Being so light is what makes the RATTLE CLACKER a joy to fish.  After “hucking” this  approximately 8 inch, 2.3oz  lure for a while you will come to appreciate the handmade cedar lure as opposed to an “ice-cube-tray” plastic injection-molded (often foreign made) heavy rubber/silicone rubber slab that might weigh 2 or 3 times as much for the same size swimbait.  PERFORMANCE ON BOTH ENDS!  Because it is cedar and very light you can throw it all day. When you perform, the TROUTMAN SWIMBAIT performs!

Nothing Fishes Like Cedar!

What the RATTLE CLACKER does IS GET BIT. I don’t need to explain why the best Owner hooks adorn it – fish “stick” to it; and by the way good luck bending ‘em!  No compromise. Get the fish in the boat and on the scale, and back into the water.  The “Colonel” takes great pride in catch and release of these remarkable creatures that saw fit to pay respect to the RATTLE CLACKER.

I have built many different designs; including far less complicated builds, but the cedar, 8 inch, 2.3oz is the swimbait that is unmatched in performance

The RATO

The 5 inch body, approximately 1.6 oz RATO is TROUTMAN SWIMBAITS newest product. Although the “Colonel” handcrafted a few one-of’s a few years ago which were devastatingly effective, the R&D of the RATTLE CLACKER took so long that the RATO project was put on the back burner. Now I’m able to produce a RATO with more precision and more noise, making it a joy to fish and uncommonly effective on pulling big bass out of the weed. Beware, the South American RATO always gets the cheese. The tail is easily replaced with supplied .050 allen key.
